Today we slept in some and had a delicious breakfast at Grandma Sumner's house. The Sumner families are so hospitable and happy to host you. I, instantly, felt apart of them and at home. You don't see a lot of families 3 or so generations still working together, living together and in the ministry together. Most families today, ministry or not, can't even stay together and be happy for one generation. They have been beautiful examples to me of a family in the ministry.
Our first Sunday in Honduras. I had the privilege and experience of helping teach Sunday school this morning with Sis Lisa. We had a blast with the kids and once again my heart melted with some of them. I was impressed by their involvement and overall willingness to learn and memorize. I've made up my mind I'm learning more kid's songs in Spanish; I love them and most of them have some kind of motions!
This morning we started out at a Saturday school and soup kitchen. The SENT team narrated and acted out the story of Esther. The response was wonderful and each of us made friends with those who came. After the Bible skit, we helped serve food to the children and mothers who came, around 159 in attendance. I loved the set up and the serving line. It was ideal for outreach and staying organized at the same time. I wouldn't mind patterning a similar set up elsewhere. I learned how to cut up yuca, a white root style fruit with thin bark on it, which we ate later. It is similar to a white potato but once cooked a little tougher. They prepared it with cabbage and pork skins and a home made sauce. It was interesting, definitely different, but not bad. :-)
I am so excited to be here in Honduras. I cannot really explain the emotions and feelings I had flying into Honduras and then traveling to the Summer's house. So much peace was in my heart and I instantly knew I would love being here and working along side the Sumner family with FGBI. I count it such an honor and privilege to be apart of such a great work for the Lord. Flying, I kept thinking of how awesome our God is to make and love and care for each one of us--doesn't matter where we are from. I knew without a doubt that going to Honduras this year was what God wanted and had asked me to do. Already with only one service over and still unfamiliar with people, etc., I can say I know this was God who orchestrated it all. I have such a burden to see God move and tonight's service was a good start. I can't wait to see what the remainder of our time here will hold.
