“Flying High”
The day started when we left out of school at 3:30am to start our journey of flying to Honduras. There was an excitement as I realized that this was really happening. The dream of getting to do what God called me to do was finally happening. The flights went good. Actually, on one of the flights I was looking out the window and I saw the clouds beneath me and the brightest, clearer, blue sky above all those clouds. It got me to thinking about how sometimes all we get focused on is the clouds and the circumstances around us that we don’t realize that above all that is a clearer, blue sky. It hit me on how much God really does care for His children and that when He calls us to do something, if we are willing to take the first step and do what we can then God is going to step in and help to accomplish that calling, and what He calls us to do, He will accomplish it.
The landing into Danli was an interesting one. As the plane bounced down the short runway the sounds of clapping could be heard. It was not as bad as everyone made it out to be however. As we stepped off the plane, we walked down the stairs and when we stepped off onto Honduran ground, it hit me that I am actually in another country.
Going through customs wasn’t bad. For some reason I was thinking that we would have to answer all of these questions and do a lot of things but we just walked up to the window, handed them our passport and paper, they took a picture, and we were going off to get our luggage and meet up with the Sumner’s.
The Sumner’s took us to Coco Baleadas, where we got our first taste of Honduran food. I started the journey off stepping out of what I was used to and trying new things. The food was delicious. After all was done we finally headed out to The Sumner’s houses. We got the first taste of the beautifulness of Honduras. When we arrived, introductions was made and we got to taste even more authentic food where we had curry, salad, rolls, and yummy cookies.
After all was said and done, we went to sleep to get ready for the busy schedule the next day.
