We got up this morning and we prepared to leave the Sumner’s for the last time while on this S.E.N.T. trip. As reflecting upon this trip and all the things that the Lord has done through this group, I am thankful that I have been allowed another time to participate in S.E.N.T., and I pray that God will open yet another door for me to be a blessing to the Sumner’s and Honduras. I am thankful that God has counted me faithful in calling me to be a minister; and I hope that I measure up to what God wants me to be!
Today we got up and went to Valley of the Angels, a popular tourist place where we all spent a lot of money! I bought several knives, and the other group members bought a lot of good stuff. We bought shirts, wind-breakers, and some even bought purses. We had a lot of fun looking for cool Honduran souvenirs. Then later that day we all had a lot of fun playing volley ball, and corn hole. It was a lot of fun!!!
The first service we went to was an air force base, and then we went to the language school where a lot of military and police who want to pursue learning a foreign language go. The service was conducted in English; it was so strange when we started singing in English I guess I had got so used to singing in Spanish. Lol! But it was good and the Lord helped us. The last service we went to was the Police Academy (which is a four year program), in this service there were several hundred police cadets who attended, it was a great service. And I especially enjoyed watching them all sing and act out ‘Father Abraham!’ Then we headed home, it was a great service!
Today we got a jump start on the day’s work. The guys began at 7 A.M., and we ate breakfast at 9:00 A.M. Today Jacob did a lot of welding, and the rest of us did whatever needed to be done. We worked until about 4 P.M. then we ate and got ready for church. Tonight I think we all were absolutely exhausted, but the Lord moved and we had another good service!
Today we got up and worked for the most part of the day. A group of us went to the soup kitchen and worked on repainting the benches and little minor stuff like that while some of the guys stayed behind and welded and started getting the benches together.
Tonight we had another wonderful service. Jacob and James did a good job preaching, and there was yet another great altar service. This morning was a typical Honduran Sunday morning, we got up and ate, then they left with the school bus at around 8:45ish to 9:00 A.M. to pick up the bus kids. We got to the church and started. Bro. Pahlman taught Sunday school, and we finished with the Kids Crusade, and the main theme of this morning was “we need the Holy Ghost.” After we finished we made an altar call for those who didn’t have the Holy Ghost and all the children came up and some adults. It was during the altar call that at least one child received the Holy Ghost (during a kids crusade!!!). It was phenomenal!!! Praise God.
That night as we started the service you could feel God from the very beginning! And as the songs were sung and the testimonies given you could feel God moving in hearts and lives. It was during this service that at least two backsliders gave their lives back to God! This morning we got up and ate brunch, and then some of the group left for the soup kitchen, while the others waited around for the second group which left at 10. We arrived at the soup kitchen and it was an absolute thrill to feed the children and to play with them. I took a few on air plane rides (smaller children who I could pick up and fly around). They loved it!
We left the soup kitchen and headed for the children’s Saturday school (kind of like Sunday school). There are three ladies in the church that hold these at their house, there were several kids at each of these and it was a blast as we did each one! Tonight we started the kid’s crusade, and we had a good start. We introduced the recruits and Goliath, setting the stage for the future days.
We were able to get a little more sleep this morning, because we didn’t have to travel as long to the first base, I believe we all enjoyed this and were thankful for the extra sleep. This day was busy as well, we traveled for more than 12 hours again this day, but even Christ Himself had a very taxing schedule (as we see in the Scriptures, at times He would take His disciples away just to try and get a little rest because of their weariness). It was either today or yesterday (I can’t remember which day), we had a service where Bro. Scott called whoever wanted to come to the front (I think it was for salvation because the message was about salvation, and being changed; I can’t speak Spanish so I’m guessing that’s what the altar call was about). But it was in that particular altar call that I remember that there was a soldier whose shoulders were literally shaking because he was crying and praying so hard. I remember thinking that it was that single moment that made every cent that I had spent for the trip and the things involved; the time off from work which resulted in the loss of a couple of weeks’ worth of work, it was that moment that made it all worth it! Thank God for this opportunity!!! Thank God for the Sumner’s sacrifice and their extended offer to S.E.N.T. to come and be a part of God’s work through them, I am humbled and extremely grateful for all that God has allowed me to witness and be a part of! Praise God!!!
This morning we left at 4:00 A.M., we then traveled for approximately 3 hours. After arriving at the paratrooper base, Bro. Hough was the first one to preach and he challenged the hearts of the soldiers. We got to witness the Honduran army perform some of their routine drills. We went to 5 bases that day (including the one Bro. Hough preached at) and preached, sang, and testified. The Lord moved in the services and it was evident by the response to some of the soldiers whose hearts were tender toward God. It was a busy day; we traveled from 4:00 A.M. to approximately 8:00 P.M. that evening.
