I hate leaving Honduras each time. I wish we could have all stayed longer. Not just for our own enjoyment, but there is just so much work to be done in Honduras and so many opportunities to serve God here. The door is open in Honduras if men and women would just hear and obey the calling that God is sending, but that doesn't just apply to Honduras--it applies to places all over the world. There are people everywhere that are in desperate need of the Gospel, how many of them will slip into hell because of a man or woman who was too caught up in their own life to obey the call of God. I cannot wait to go back and I hope that there are others who are feeling the weight of the burden and the burning of the call in their hearts as well.
Today we were allowed to be tourist and went sight-seeing and souvenir buying at the Valley of the Angels. It is a beautiful place full of artisans and scenery. There were so many options to choose from, but I believe that I managed to pick out just the right souvenirs for my family and loved ones. We headed back to the house to take rides on the Sumner's airplane and just spend some time together and relax. After a wonderful meal prepared by Sister Paula, we had a devotional service where we sang songs together and then Bro. Jake Sumner gave an awesome devotion on being in the Will of God, regardless whether we be a missionary or not. This wasn't the end of the night however--we had one more thing on the agenda, Sis. Bonita's birthday! We wish you a wonderful birthday and a wonderful year to follow it.
Today we return to base preaching. The Sumner brothers only base preach on Wednesdays during their off week so we traveled with them to Tegucigalpa to preach to some of those bases. The first service was at the Air Force base in Teguz, and Aaron did a good job preaching to them. The next service is a unique one, because it is at the language school for the Honduran police and military. This means that our entire service will be in English! It was kind of strange singing English songs again, and preaching without an interpreter was nice. When preaching you have to speak slowly and enunciate plainly for them to follow along. They responded well and we had a good service among them. Afterwards we enjoyed letting them practice their English on us--it was fun.
We got an early start today so that we could be sure to get as much done as possible. We finished welding at the kitchen and we also put two coats of paint on the tabletops and repainted all the frames to protect them from rust.
We were able to sleep in a little bit today, and then we had a wonderful waffle breakfast with the Sumner's to start the day off. Today we began the prep work at the soup kitchen so that we could repaint the tables and benches. It was a light work day for us guys mostly consisting of pressure washing the tables, but we were able to do some welding on the tables to repair braces and the like. Once we got everything ready for us to jump in and paint on Tuesday, we headed back to the house to get ready for church. The service was wonderful and Bro. Ashton preached an awesome message--we had a good time in the Lord.
It's already the last day of or Kid's Crusade and the kids have really been enjoying themselves. I am now known as "Capitán Ganchoª or Captain Hook in English, haha! With the crusade over, we took down the decorations and cleaned up the church. We had a wonderful meal at the Sumner's home and then got some much needed rest. Sunday night began our first night of the youth revival and God really came by in a mighty way. From the very start His sweet presence was there and it was wonderful to just linger with Him. The SENT Team then started ministering by singing, testifying, and exhorting before we moved on to the preaching. God was there with us as we ministered. Hannah testified exceptionally well and I was so proud of her as the Lord really used her. It is so wonderful that even though there is a language barrier between us and we did not understand their songs, the Holy Spirit needs no interpreter when He moves and ministers among us. I was the preacher scheduled to preach and I preached on being "Wounded in the House of God." Though I am not much of a preacher, thank God that He came by to help out this pitiful preacher. Real revival begins with repentance and the message was for those who were wounded by their sin and needed God to bind them together again.
This is one of the busier days that we have had during the SENT trip. We started the morning off early and went to our first Saturday school at the 110th Brigade. The Brigade has been getting involved with the local children and we partnered with them to put on a Saturday school for the children--they seemed to really enjoy the skit and songs. Afterwards we swung by the funeral of the young girl who had passed away. Bro Alan Sumner preached so powerfully to the people there and there was even a lady that came up to be saved. It was also amazing to see how the Lord was taking care of the mother and father of the young girl. God is truly so good to us.
Busy week may be over but that doesn't mean that we are done base preaching. We started out at 6:45 am and headed over to the Sumner's local police post in Danli. This is our only service today and the first one with the whole group together. Ashton did a wonderful job preaching to them. Afterwards we had breakfast at Milay's which is a local favorite of the Sumner's (and mine as well). The rest of the afternoon was spent preparing for the beginning of our Kid's Crusade, and also for the soup kitchen on Saturday. We had a great time decorating the church, and the scene came together wonderfully. The theme for this year's crusade is "Sailing with the Savior" and it follows three pirates as they search for treasure and end up finding the true treasure, Jesus Christ. The first night of the Crusade went well and all the kids really enjoyed themselves. They laughed and played and won prizes, and when it was time to fill the altars they came willingly and we had a good altar service. The last day of busy week is already upon us!!! Seems like it goes by so fast and yet at the same time, because there is so much that happens in that short period. It seems like it's been forever since we started! It will be good to see the north team again as well. We started off the day by packing up all of our luggage and clearing the hotel rooms. I even got the opportunity to drive in Tegucigalpa to bring the vehicles from the parking garage to the hotel. That may not seem like much to you, but it was really neat to be able to do that. Once we loaded up, we were off to the bases. We went to four bases today and it was a good thing that the Lord is our strength because I think all of us were fairly worn out! We had good services at each base in spite of being tired. Then it was time to go to the Sumner's home!
We started our day with a trip to the Cobra and Tiger base. This is the Honduran equivalent to our swat teams. They are specially trained police officers for tactical and paramilitary operations. These guys are bad hombres--so it's amazing to watch them get into service with us and even allow themselves to cry during the preaching. God is doing a wonderful work among these men, and they responded so well to the preaching. After the service they fixed us a delicious Honduran breakfast.
