Bittersweet would be the way I would describe today. In some ways it was good to be going home, but then again I was leaving a major piece of my heart in Honduras. It has been such a good time here. The Lord has helped us so much and has really touched me personally. From the military bases and academies, to the kids crusade and youth revival, God has really done amazing things. I hope to visit again sometime soon! What has really made this trip is the Sumner family themselves, seeing their burden and hard work has really challenged me. It's not easy what they do, but when God is in it, He always makes a way. I'll probably miss riding the bus to pick up the church people and kids for church the most. I loved seeing their faces when they saw the bus pulling up. Even though I couldn't speak Spanish and there was limited communication, it still didn't hold us back from being friends with everyone. It didn't hold us back in the services either. Though there were two different languages, the Spirit is always the same.
We visited Valley of the Angels today for souvenirs, it's a beautiful little tourist spot on the mountain about 2 hours from Danli. When we got back to the house later that afternoon Bro. Alan and Bro. Scott got the airplane ready for us to take a ride in. I got to sit in the front with Bro. Alan, as he explained to me how everything works, etc. He then let go of the steering wheel and said, "Oh no, we're going down! What do you need to do?" For a moment I thought he was joking, but he really wanted me to steer the plane. So I grabbed the wheel and made the plane go back up and he replied, "Thank you so much, you just saved our lives!!!" I'm thankful it was all in good fun because if I really had to maneuver the plane we probably would've crashed. We ate curry for supper then afterwards we gathered in the living room for a time of songs and devotion. We sang several songs and then Bro. Jake Sumner gave a devotion about "following the will of God". There was a very sweet presence of the Lord--I'm thankful that no matter where you are He's always with us.
Today we all joined together and visited 4 military bases and academies in Tegucigalpa. At the second one we got to attend the language school they have at one of their bases. They could only speak English while they were there, and if anyone happened to say a Spanish word they would have to pay two lempiras to their teacher. We sang "I have decided to follow Jesus" and "If you say go" and Lisa and I testified. It was strange not having an interpreter after having one all week. Afterwards, the military men came and practiced their English with us. They all did very well, except for one who accidentally used a Spanish word but we said we wouldn't tell, haha! At the last two academies we decided to do our Mephibosheth skit for them--they absolutely loved it! We ended the day with my favorite place to eat, the "meat plate place" (it doesn't have an official name).
